What is an Air Scrubber Plus?
To understand what an air scrubber is, we have to first understand what it is not. Air filtration and air purification are two parts of the indoor air quality equation. As the name suggests, air filtration typically refers to the use of an air filter installed in air conditioning ducts.
Similarly, an air scrubber “scrubs” the air of airborne particles, chemicals and odors. Air filters trap impurities as they attempt to pass through it. Conversely, an air scrubber uses a chemical reaction to destroy free-floating particles in the air inside your home.
Origins of the Air Scrubber
Air scrubbers were first used in industrial and manufacturing plants to remove gasses from the air. They became more popular in recent years in commercial offices, hotels and restaurants removing airborne contaminants and pollutants. Other applications include mold abatement projects and cleanroom environments that require high-level air cleaning.
Installing an Air Scrubber in a Residential Home
We use air scrubbers in our commercial offices and the Magic Touch Mechanical warehouse in Mesa, AZ. However, I also have an air scrubber installed in my home, as do many of our technicians…we all swear by them! I’ve written several reviews about my own personal experience with one particular model, the Air Scrubber Plus.
What is the Air Scrubber Plus?
The Air Scrubber Plus is a duct mounted air purifier meant for residential homes with central air duct systems. There are two models available – ozone free & ozone producing. Ozone producing models are recommended for anyone specifically interested in removing household odors, EX. cigarette smoke, pet & cooking odors, etc. However, ozone-free models are recommended for anyone with a diagnosed lung-disease.
One Air Scrubber Plus covers up to 2,000 square feet (a home with one central air conditioner). For larger homes, it’s recommended to install one air scrubber for each air conditioning & heating system.
